COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Division of Police says the report of a missing 4-year-old girl from east Columbus was a lie.

Police sent out information on Monday saying Briana Jefferson was last seen in east Columbus walking in the area of Hampton Road and East Broad Street on March 17.

On Tuesday, police said they were contacted by the family of the girl after seeing their post.

Police said the girl is not named Briana and is not 4 years old. The girl, in middle school, is safe with family in Pennsylvania. She was never missing.

The missing persons unit determined the Columbus woman who said her child was missing made up the story.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and charges are forthcoming.
