An Ohio State University-Mansfield student who was killed in Kentucky after being taken from campus was shot by the man accused of abducting her.

During a press conference Wednesday, the Kentucky State Police said the bullet that hit 20-year-old Skylar Williams was fired by 24-year-old Ty'rell Pounds.

Pounds was accused of abducting Williams Monday morning by displaying a handgun and forcing her into a vehicle.

Later in the day, Kentucky police said a witness called 911, saying the person saw a distressed woman at a gas station being forced into a vehicle by a man. The caller said it appeared the woman was asking for help.

Authorities located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop but Pounds kept driving.

Officers were able to execute a PIT maneuver and stop the vehicle after Pounds exited the highway.

Police said a trooper heard gunfire from the vehicle and returned fire, striking Pounds and killing him. Authorities said Pounds was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Williams was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities said Pounds had a previous relationship with Williams and was the father of her child.
