A Pickaway County man is accused of child enticement after Circleville police say they caught him as he tried to pick up a 13-year-old girl from middle school.

Police say 26-year-old Christopher Bartholomew was doing it without the girl's parents' permission or knowledge.

Officials with Circleville City Schools say this started with a student who heard something concerning: plans for a 26-year-old man to pick up a 13-year-old girl from school.

School officials say that student did the right thing by reporting it to a teacher, who then alerted the school resource officer.

Court records obtained by 10TV say the only information the officer had was that it was a 26-year-old man named Christopher. The officer said he saw a black SUV pull out of the pickup line and accelerate rapidly away when he went to check out the area.

Police say a search of the SUV's plate came back to 26-year-old Christopher Bartholomew.

The officer was able to catch up to and pull over the SUV and asked the driver why he was at the middle school. The driver said "he was picking up his buddy's daughter," but was unable to provide a name for that supposed buddy.

Police say a search of the 13-year-old girl's phone turned up sexually charged messages with Bartholomew. She told investigators he was picking her up to take her "to a park to have sex."

Police say the last message from Christopher on her phone said, "he had been stopped by the cops and was probably going to jail."

Bartholomew is charged with child enticement, but police say the investigation is open and more charges are possible. He is free on bond with GPS monitoring.

School officials are praising quick the quick response of this officer and the actions of a young student who saw something and said something.

10TV was not able to reach Bartholomew for comment.
