A Licking County father is accused of injuring his newborn over frustration with the baby's crying.

The 2-month-old boy was at Nationwide Children's Hospital with a brain injury. His father, 34-year-old Joshua Metoxen was in the Licking County Jail.

In Facebook photos, Metoxen appears to be a proud new father. His most recent photo of the baby was posted July 18.

But the Licking County Sheriff's Office says Monday they were called to the hospital for a report of a baby with a brain injury.

Investigators say the baby had not been eating normally for several days.

They say Metoxen is the sole caregiver for the baby during the day and admitted "he had become frustrated with the child crying and that he put the victim down harder than he should have."

But it may not have been a one-time incident. Investigators say in addition to the baby's current brain injury, doctors found a healing brain bleed, a possible indication of a previous injury.

Joshua Metoxen was being held on $100,000 bond, charged with child endangering and felony assault.

10TV was not able to reach his family for comment.
