Police investigating after five robbers steal 30 guns from Plain City gun shop

Debris flew as a truck slammed into the wall of Smokin' Aces Armory and Gun Shop in Plain City Thursday night.

“Watched the video footage and surveillance immediately, becoming extremely frustrated with what had happened,” said owner Chris Hines.

Just after 9 p.m. Thursday, five people ran into the store and were out within 40 seconds.

“They didn't look confused where they were at. They just smash and grabbed," Hines said.

Hines said by watching the video, it looks like the robbers had been in the store before. They went straight for the handgun and didn't even touch the cash register.

“They took 30 handguns. Smith and Wesson and Glock. They were very specific with the cabinets they hit. That's why we knew they had been in the store before,” Hines said.

Hines said they are going to pour over weeks' worth of surveillance video to see if the robbers have been in the store before. Hines said he's worried to think about how the guns will be used.

The ATF, the Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Plain City Police Department are all investigating the robbery. Hines is hoping it's only a matter of time before the robbers are caught.

“The only thing we want is for these criminals to be brought to justice,” Hines said.
