Police identify pedestrian struck, killed in south Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A pedestrian who was struck and killed in south Columbus Wednesday night has been identified.

Columbus police say the call came in just after 9:30 p.m. on Jackson Pike near the Franklin County Correctional Center.

Douglas Cook, 49 of Columbus was walking southbound in the southbound lane of Jackson Pike north of Dyer Road.

At the same time, a Subaru Forester was going southbound on Jackson Pike north when it struck the back of Cook.

The Subaru pulled over and stopped. Then a dark-colored SUV behind Cook also struck him while he was on the ground and then fled the area.

Cook was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m.

The sheriff's office said Cook was an inmate at the Jackson Pike Facility and was released Wednesday evening.
