COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police have identified a man killed earlier this week in a shooting and crash on the west side of Columbus.

On Sunday, April 15, Columbus Police was called to South Terrace Avenue on a report of 20 to 30 shots fired in the area.

When officers arrived, they located a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. Inside, officers found 30-year-old Jerome Anthony Grant in the driver's seat, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the Grant was traveling southbound on S. Terrace Avenue when he was shot, causing the vehicle to strike a tree on the west side of the roadway.

Columbus Police say this is the 27th homicide in the city in 2018.
