Police identify man killed in west Columbus shooting


COLUMBUS, Ohio – A man is dead after a shooting in west Columbus Thursday morning.

According to Columbus police, the shooting happened just before 10:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South Harris Avenue.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Around 11 a.m., police confirmed the person had passed away.

Police identified the victim as 48-year-old Javier Martinez.

Witnesses told police the suspect is male and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and mask.

Witnesses said he was carrying a long gun and ran northbound away from the scene before heading east on Palmetto Street.

No arrests have been made.

This is the 33rd homicide o 2019.
