Police identify Gahanna man killed in crash on I-270 in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Gahanna man has died following a multi-vehicle crash on I-270 south on the southeast side of Columbus on Tuesday.

The Columbus Division of Police said a crash involving a semi and other vehicles was reported around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Police did not say exactly what led to the crash, but it resulted in the semi and a Hyundai Elantra catching fire.

The driver of the semi was able to escape the vehicle. Police say the driver of the Elantra, identified as 59-year-old Randell Shank of Gahanna, was unable to escape. He was pronounced dead on scene.

I-270 was shut down in the area of U.S. 33 as a result of the crash. The highway reopened nearly four hours later.
