Police: Babysitter arrested after 2-year-old dies in hot car

HOBBS, N.M. - Police in New Mexico say 41-year-old Tammy Brooks is accused of leaving a 2-year-old in a hot car for several hours, resulting in the child’s death.

Police say Brooks was babysitting the child and was supposed to drop her off at daycare but instead drove to work.

The child was left unattended in a car seat for several hours before Brooks realized the child was still in the car and called 911.

Police say when they arrived it was clear the girl had been dead for some time.

It got up to 88 degrees in Hobbs on Tuesday during that time.

Brooks has been charged with abandonment or child abuse of a child that resulted in death.
