Police: Arrest made after assault in Newark leaves man in critical condition

NEWARK, Ohio - A man is in critical condition and another man is arrested and charged with assault, according to the Newark Division of Police.

Officers responded to the 100 block of National Drive just after midnight on April 7 for a reported assault.

When police arrived, they found a 58-year-old man who was injured.

He was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital and then to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Police said 34-year-old Nicholas Stokes was arrested and charged with felonious assault after allegedly punching the man.

Stokes is in custody at the Licking County Justice Center.

Newark police said the case will be sent to the Licking County prosecutor's office for review.
