Family hopeful after learning of reward offered in Pike Co. murders

UPDATE: On Thursday, July 21, Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers increased the reward to $10,000 for an arrest and conviction in the Pike County murders.

Friday marks three months since eight family members were killed execution-style in Pike County.

A close family member asked us not to identify her because she said she's still in fear for her own life.

"There's still fear because we don't know who [and] we don't know why,” they explained.

Loved ones said they can’t bear the thought of the case going cold.

"I feel like I would die myself thinking it would be a cold case,” the family member said.

Sheriff’s investigators said they’ve received more than 300 tips. A billboard posted along U.S. 23 in Pike County asks people with information to come forward, but family members said it's not enough.

The victims’ loved ones said they are upset none of the Crime Stoppers organizations in Ohio are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

"Eight family members were murdered execution style and no one is coming forward, and I am very angry about that,” they said.

10TV asked Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers why it wasn't offering a reward. We were surprised when the organization told us the board did approve a $5,000 reward not long after the bodies were discovered.

Crime Stoppers said it left a voicemail to notify investigators, but both the Pike County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Attorney General's Office said this is the first they're hearing of a reward.

Family members said they hope the incentive of money will convince tipsters to come forward before the killer, or killers, make their next move.

“What's to say they're not going to do it again? These people have to be stopped,” the family member said.
