COLUMBUS, Ohio - Welcome to the world of pickleball.

It is kind of a cross between ping pong and tennis.

Its popularity is certainly on the rise and is billed as one of the fastest growing sports in the United States.

Pickleball has been around since 1963. It was started in in Seattle, Washington by a couple of dads who invented the game to give their bored kids something to do.

As far as the name of the sport? The family had a dog who would chase after the ball. The dog’s name was Pickle and the rest is history.

Gerry Bennett said there are over 6,000 players involved in the central Ohio organization he is involved with.

He said the sport is for all ages - from children to seniors.

If you are interested in getting involved contact Gerry Bennett at Pickleball Promotions USA on Facebook.
