Parents discuss scholarship named after murdered OSU student Reagan Tokes

COLUMBUS - A scholarship named in honor of murdered Ohio State student Reagan Tokes is now a reality.

The Ohio State University Board of Trustees approved the creation of the $50,000 scholarship during its meeting Thursday.

"The scholarship was created by family and friends in memory of Reagan Delaney Tokes to honor her legacy, her kind giving heart, and her love of life, others, and of Ohio State. The annual distribution from this fund shall be used to provide undergraduate scholarships, with preference for students majoring in Psychology. Scholarships are renewable as long as recipients remain in good academic standing. Recipients will be selected by Student Financial Aid," according to a copy of the minutes reviewed by 10 Investigates.

It's been nearly a year since Reagan Tokes was killed. The man charged with her kidnapping, rape and murder - Brian Golsby - has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His trial is slated to start February 23. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

In an exclusive interview with 10 Investigates, Lisa McCrary-Tokes and Toby Tokes discuss Reagan's legacy, her academic achievements and why this scholarship is so important to them and their daughter's memory.

"The Ohio State University has been given a donation in the Reagan Delaney Tokes scholarship will be given forever, as long as OSU is a university there will be a student benefiting from Reagan Delaney Tokes," Toby Tokes told 10 Investigates.

"It has helped us cope," Lisa McCrary-Tokes told 10 Investigates. "And it's the right thing to do and it's what she would want us to do."

The Ohio State University scholarship is one of four the Tokes have created in their daughter's honor to benefit other students.

The Tokes are also planning a weekend full of events to benefit the Reagan Delaney Tokes Memorial Fund. More information can be found here.

Next Thursday, 10 Investigates will have more in their exclusive interview with the Tokes in the year that has followed the unthinkable - the disappearance and murder of their oldest daughter, Reagan.
