COLUMBUS, Ohio (10TV) -- A central Ohio church is remembering an 11-year-old girl, who was a big part of their congregation.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Robertson-Rutland, 11, died Wednesday. She was struck and killed on the way to the bus stop. It happened before 6:30 a.m. on McNaughten Road near East Main Street. It's an area that is dark with no sidewalks.

On Wednesday night, the Worship Center of Central Ohio held a service in her honor. Rutland attended that church since she was born.

"Our hearts are real heavy right now because a big part of us is gone," said Zelda Dunn, Children's Ministry Leader at The Worship Center of Central Ohio.

Rutland is someone who would light up a room. She often would dance and sing during services.

"Lizzie was a princess when she walked through those doors. We just admired her so much," Dunn said.

Her church family is trying to find purpose in their pain. One member called for change in the city.

"We might be crying right now, we might be feeling heartache right now, but let's do this in honor of Lizzie. Let's get these sidewalks," she said. "Whatever we need to do, whatever petitions we need to start!"

Members are finding comfort in one another and knowing Rutland had a strong faith.

"We know that she knew who Jesus was, so we also understand that she is OK," Dunn said.

They know Rutland's memory will forever live on in their hearts.

"We'll remember Lizzie - our little light. We will remember Lizzie," Dunn said.

Rutland's grandmother tells 10TV the street is too busy and needs sidewalks. You can see that story here.
