OSHP trooper conducting traffic stop injured after semi crash near Marietta

WASHINGTON COUNTY — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was injured following a crash Friday morning.

According to OSHP, Sgt. Eric Knowlton of Marietta, was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 77 near Marietta before being struck by a semi around 7:45 a.m.

The car that was pulled over was also hit by the semi.

Knowlton was flown to Grant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Three other people were taken to a local hospital in Marietta.

In a Facebook post, OSHP says, "Ohio law requires drivers to move over or slow down and proceed with caution while approaching stationary public safety vehicles with lights activated."

The crash remains under investigation.
