An organization dedicated to honoring first responders and members of the military is in central Ohio, presenting financial gifts to the families of two officers killed in the line of duty.

The New York-based Tunnel to Towers Foundation was created by Frank Siller to honor his brother Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter killed on September 11, 2001.

On Thursday, the organization announced plans to financially assist Linda Morelli, widow of Westerville officer Anthony Morelli. Tunnels to Towers agreed to pay five years of property taxes and utilities for Morelli family.

In February, Tunnel to Towers announced it would pay off the mortgage on Officer Eric Joering's home. Officer Joering was Morelli's partner. They were both killed while responding to a hang-up 911.

“Obviously they've got all kinds of concerns, the loss of loved ones and what are we going to do about this and that,” Keith Ferrell Executive Vice President of FOP Lodge 9 said.

“This is just one big piece that they no longer have to worry about and I think it’s incredible.”

The organization will also pay off the mortgage for the family of Kirkersville Police Officer Steven Eric DiSario. Chief DiSario, just three weeks into the job, died after investigators say he was shot by gunman Thomas Hartless in May of 2017.
