Orange Barrel Alert: Traffic delays on the west side this weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Transportation is investing close to $60 million by adding one lane over an 8 mile stretch of Interstate 270 from US-33 in Dublin to Trabue Road on the west side. If you plan on taking I-270 on the west side, road work will slow you down this weekend.

You'll also notice a temporary traffic configuration and several digital speed limit signs that will reflect a speed limit change during construction.

60 mph: Speed limit in work zone when workers are not present

55 mph: Speed limit in work zone when workers are present

SATURDAY, MAY 6 (I-270 SOUTH ONLY)

7 PM: I-270 south between Davidson Road and I-70 is reduced to two lanes. The ramp from Cemetery Road west to I-270 south will also close. The detour is Cemetery Road to I-270 north to Tuttle Crossing Blvd. to I-270 south.

8 PM: The following ramps will close:

  • I-270 south to I-70 west. The detour is I-270 south to Georgesville Road to I-270 north to I-70 west.
  • Cemetery Road east to I-270 south. The detour is Cemetery Road to I-270 north to Tuttle Crossing Blvd. to I-270 south.

9 PM: The following ramps will close:

  • I-270 south to I-70 east. The detour is I-270 south to Georgesville Road to I-270 north to I-70 east.
  • I-270 south to Roberts Road. The detour is I-270 south to Georgesville Road to I-270 north to Roberts Road.
  • Roberts Road to I-270 south. The detour is Roberts Road to I-270 north to Tuttle Crossing Blvd. to I-270 south.

10 PM: I-270 south between Davidson Road and I-70 is reduced to one lane.

SUNDAY, MAY 7

7 AM: Two lanes of I-270 south are open between Davidson Road and I-70. The following ramps are open:

  • I-270 south to I-70 east
  • I-270 south to Roberts Road
  • Roberts Road to I-270 south.

8 AM: The following ramps are open:

  • I-270 south to I-70 west
  • Cemetery Road east to I-270 south
  • Cemetery Road west to I-270 south

11AM: All three lanes of I-270 south are open but shifted towards the median.

By Sunday morning, southbound I-270 traffic will be in a new temporary traffic pattern in order for crews to begin construction on the extra travel lane.
