Two oral surgeons are setting out to stop opioid abuse before it can start by developing a non-narcotic pain management regimen for after surgery.

Drs. Manraj Bath and Eber Stevao point to studies showing youths prescribed opioids after wisdom teeth surgery are getting hooked. Instead, they are using a combination of anti-inflammatory drugs instead with impressive results.

“I want them to know we've got options and we champion them in our practice on a regular basis,” Bath said.

Bath and Stevao met with legislators last week. They're pushing for other doctors to recognize and implement alternatives to opioids.
