Ohio National Guard called to help Hurricane Michael victims

The Ohio Army National Guard has been called to help.

A seven-member crew left out of North Canton Thursday afternoon, headed to Florida.

They have done this before, helping in the aftermath of a hurricane. They take a Chinook helicopter, it can hold up to 50 pounds so they can be used to get supplies where they're needed.

“To carry food, supplies, water, sandbags, whatever's needed to help the community down there,” said Pilot Cory Schapson.

“We have a lot of power, we can carry a lot of weight, we can carry a lot of people,” said Capt. Tara Pappas.

The crew doesn’t know how long the mission will last, they said they will be there as long as they’re needed.
