An Ohio state senator has introduced legislation that would prohibit smoking in a vehicle if a child under the age of 6 is present.

Sen. Tina Maharath of Franklin County introduced the bill.

The fine would be $500 and a repeat offender would face another $500 plus $250 for each subsequent violation.

The legislation covers cigarettes, cigars, pipe or lit smoking device for burning tobacco. The proposal does not mention vaping.
