North Carolina funeral home introduces Mochi, its grief therapy dog in training

FRANKLIN, N.C. — A North Carolina funeral home introduced its newest staff member last week — a grief therapy dog named Mochi.

The 8-week-old Bernese Mountain Dog will be in training, but will soon appear at funeral visitations and visits to nursing homes.

"When I decided to return to Macon Funeral Home, I talked with Brian Hylton about bringing on a grief-support dog, and he was very open to the suggestion," said Macon Funeral Home's Office Administrator Tori McKay.

McKay says she chose Mochi's breed because of their kind dispositions and laid-back personalities.

"So far, everyone has been so supportive, and Mochi has already made a difference in families' lives this week," McKay said. "I have had people reach out for grief therapy, and the reception on Facebook has been incredible."
