Columbus’ own Nina West made history last night at the Emmys as the first person to walk the purple carpet in full drag.

Several stars have done it for Emmy events but never leading up to the main broadcast.

Traditionally the show has a red carpet but was changed this year to purple to represent Hollywood royalty.

West, portrayed by Andrew Levitt, recently finished sixth on the 11th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and won the title of Miss Congeniality.

The show was nominated for 14 Emmys this year, a record for any VH1 show.

Hull Alley at High Street was renamed Nina West Way this past June ahead of Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival.

West served as the parade's Grand Marshall and was honored at the Pride Brunch.
