Worthington Police Officer Struck By Car In NW Columbus

Columbus police confirm they were contacted by Worthington police Tuesday afternoon on a report that an officer was hit near SR 315 and Henderson Road just before noon.

A 22-year veteran of the Worthington Police Department is recovering after being struck by a vehicle in northwest Columbus Tuesday just before noon.

According to the city of Worthington, Officer Kirk Allton, 49, had pulled over a vehicle traveling southbound on SR-315 just north of the Henderson Road exit.

Officer Allton was talking with the driver through the passenger side window when a chain reaction accident occurred.

A third vehicle in the middle lane slowed and was rear-ended by a fourth car. The third car was pushed into the stopped vehicle.

Officer Allton was hit when the stopped car was pushed off the side of the road.

He was transported to OSU Wexner Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

The other drivers refused any treatment at the scene.

Columbus Police are investigating the crash.
