Sheriff: Infant Among 5 Dead In House Fire

Authorities say a fire swept through a 12-bedroom house in far southern Ohio early this morning, killing five people, including an 8-month old infant.

Authorities said a fire swept through a 12-bedroom house in far southern Ohio early Mondaymorning, killing five people, including an 8-month old infant.
     
The state fire marshal's office said a baby boy and four women died in the fire. Their namesand ages were not immediately released.

Lawless said he believes the house was a large, private home. It is in Elizabeth Township, 93miles southeast of Columbus.

The state fire marshal's office says seven people were injured.

King's Daughters Medical Center confirmed that seven were brought to the hospital in nearbyAshland, Ky.

A spokesman there said he could not comment on the extent or nature of the injuries.
     
The fire marshal's office said it appeared the fire started in the breezeway at thecenter of the home, but it was too early to say what sparked the blaze.

Shane Cartmill, a spokesman for the State Fire Marshal's office, said the blaze was thedeadliest in the state so far this year.

In January, four people were killed in a house fire in Richland County.
