The relationship between police officers and the communities they serve is the subject of a new task force holding its first meeting in Cleveland.

Gov. John Kasich formed the 18-person committee of city council members, religious leaders and law enforcement officials after a number of fatal police-involved shootings in Ohio and across the country.

A report is to be issued in May after a series of forums around the state, including an event Tuesday at Cleveland State University.

A related task force created by Attorney General Mike DeWine will recommend possible changes to the way Ohio trains officers in the use of force.

The U.S. Justice Department last month issued a report that concluded Cleveland police had engaged in a pattern and practice of using excessive force.
