Woman, sleeping 8-year-old boy injured in shooting near downtown Columbus

COLUMBUS -- Two people were injured after a shooting just south of downtown Columbus Tuesday night.

The call came into police at 11:08 p.m. and the shooting occurred in the 1800 block of South Fifth Street.

A 32-year-old woman was shot in the leg taken to Grant Medical Center. An 8-year-old boy was shot in the chest while asleep in his bed. He was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Both expected to be OK according to police.

Detectives say two unknown suspects fired shots. No additional information, including a description, is available.

This shooting remains under investigation.
