COLUMBUS, Ohio — Many people in the Whitehall and east Columbus area reported to 10TV that they heard and saw multiple aircraft in the early morning hours of Jan. 10.
10TV reached out to the John Glenn Columbus International Airport for more information.
A spokesperson for the airport told 10TV two F-18 jets from the Navy were approved by the air traffic control tower to land.
The spokesperson said it is typical for F-18s to do a low pass over the runway before landing.
The planes came from Wichita but the spokesperson did not know if the planes were based there.
The Navy was not able to provide more information as to the nature of the jets’ stop in Columbus.
The F-18s took off just before 3 p.m. Friday, according to the airport spokesperson.
The spokesperson said military aircraft flying in and out of John Glenn Columbus International Airport does happen now and then but it is mostly infrequent.
The airport spokesperson said the noise is monitored 24 hours per day at John Glenn Columbus International, Rickenbacker International and Bolton Field.
