COLUMBUS – Upcoming changes to I-70 and I-71 will be affecting traffic patterns.
Changes coming on the weekend of October 12
This change affects drivers heading east on I-70, passing downtown Columbus or heading towards I-71 north.
All lanes will remain open but starting Saturday, I-70 east will shift up to the current westbound ramp, between Grant Avenue and 18th Street for one year.
This means both directions of traffic will share the ramp while crews reconstruct the I-70 east lanes.
The ramp from I-70 east to I-71 north will stay open but here’s where things could get confusing starting this weekend:
Drivers heading to I-71 north will need to use the middle or the right lane, allowing I-70 east through-traffic to stay to the left.
This is opposite of the set-up drivers are familiar with right now.
Because of that, it can’t be stressed enough how important it is to use caution and stick to the speed limit, especially as everyone gets used to the changes.
