The Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities says it's taking part in a statewide week of service by giving back to people in need.
As part of 'Always There,' a yearlong campaign to recognize the 50th anniversary of Ohio's County Boards of Developmental Disabilities, the agency partnered with People In Need, Inc., or PIN, to show its gratitude for community support.
The Delaware board set up a half dozen locations, including libraries and the YMCA, to collect food, school supplies, and toiletries. The items are all donated to PIN, which serves about 21-thousand people every year.
Delaware resident, Lee Robinson, told 10TV he is on disability and lives on a tight fixed income. Robinson said the groceries he's provided by PIN's food pantry often last a month.
"I'm really, really grateful," said Robinson.
The Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities says it serves about 2700 people each year. About 80-percent of those served are children.
Superintendent Kristine Hodge says the services provided to people with developmental disabilities and their families has come a long way in 50-years.
"Now, what we want to do is be out there with the community, supporting the people we serve, living life and participating in life just like us," said Hodge.
