DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio — A man has been convicted in the 2019 murder of a woman in Delaware County.
The Delaware County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday that Brandon Ivy was found guilty in the death of 53-year-old Stephanie Hunter on November 22, 2019.
Ivy has been convicted on charges of aggravated murder, felonious assault and menacing by stalking.
"Stephanie was a mother. She was a grandmother, a daughter. Stephanie had a life, and when she decided she no longer wanted to share that life with Brandon Ivy, he took it from her. If he couldn’t have her, no one could," Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa A. Schiffel said.
At the end of the trial's first day, Ivy chose to represent himself for the remainder of the trial, which lasted a total of five days. More than 20 witnesses testified during the trial.
Jurors also went to the scene of the crime, which was Hunter's home at the Bear Pointe Apartments in Liberty Township.
According to authorities, the murder stemmed from a domestic violence dispute.
“She was trying to end an abusive relationship, fighting to live her life surrounded by family and friends. Her death is a tragedy, and I am proud to stand up for her and all victims of domestic violence. My office will do all we can to be a voice for Stephanie during sentencing and demand her killer be held accountable and never get the chance to hurt anyone again,” Schiffel said.
Ivy is facing a sentence of life in prison.
He is scheduled to be formally sentenced on August 10 at 11 a.m.
