Police: Teen suspected of stealing vehicle from north Columbus with 1-year-old girl inside

Detectives are looking for the suspect who police say is in his late teens and believed to have left the area in a gray Honda Accord.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police is searching for a teenage boy suspected of stealing a vehicle from a garage in north Columbus with a 1-year-old girl inside.

Police dispatchers received a call about the stolen vehicle in the 2000 block of Strimple Avenue just east of Sinclair Avenue around 8:20 a.m. Police said the vehicle was running inside a residential garage at the time of the theft. 

An officer with the Clinton Township Police Department spotted the vehicle in the Greenwich Street area. 

Around 8:45 a.m., Columbus police later found the abandoned vehicle with the child inside in the area of Greenwich Street and Pauline Avenue, roughly 10 minutes south of where the incident first happened.

Police said the child was safe and evaluated by medics as a precautionary measure. She has been reunited with her mother.
