Grove City police searching for man accused of offering candy to child

The incident happened on Sunday on Shallowford Loop.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Grove City Division of Police is searching for a man who allegedly approached a child and offered him candy.

According to police, officers were dispatched to Shallowford Loop just after 5 p.m. on Jan. 28 on the report of criminal child enticement.

A woman reported her son was outside playing basketball in their driveway when an unknown man approached him and offered him candy.

The child told the man no and started to walk toward his house when the man asked, “are you sure?” The man then said, “sorry for your loss” and walked back to his vehicle.

The mother said once her son told her what happened, she went outside and saw a Hispanic man wearing a gray beanie cap with dark hair and a dark short beard rummaging through his vehicle, which she described as a mess.

She said the man made eye contact with her and got into his vehicle and drove away. The child said the man never attempted to grab him and did not ask him to go into his vehicle.

The mother and son described the vehicle as a blueish silver Honda CRV. Police said officers checked the area and were unable to locate the man or the vehicle.

Officers were later notified about home security footage that appears to show a dark colored Honda CRV.
