DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley says she is heartbroken following Sunday morning’s mass shooting.
Nine people were killed and 27 people were injured in the shooting that happened around 1 a.m.
“This is a day we all dread happening,” Whaley said at a press briefing.
“While this is a terribly sad day for our city, I am amazed by the quick response of Dayton Police that saved literally hundreds of lives,” she said.
“Dayton has been through a lot already this year. I continue to be amazed by the grit and resiliency by our community.”
“Certainly this is a day that will be filled with prayer for our citizens, prayers for families and friends, and prayers for our community.”
The suspected shooter was also killed.
Police have not identified the victims or the suspect.
