'I think it is the safest thing': DeWine says Ohio businesses should continue allowing employees to work from home

'We’ve really encouraged every business that has had people working from home to continue to do that.'
DeWine issues urgent health advisory to help prevent spread of coronavirus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — As Ohio's reopening strategy moves forward, Gov. Mike DeWine is asking businesses that have employees who are able to work from home to continue following that process.

“We’ve really encouraged every business that has had people working from home to continue to do that,” DeWine said during his Tuesday afternoon press conference. “I think it is the safest thing, and we’re going to continue to try to do that in state government.”

His comments came after he was asked how long he planned to have state employees working from home and when he would bring them back.

“We have encouraged every business in the state, any employee that can work from home should work from home," he said. "We are going to try to follow that with what we do as well in state government. What we’re finding is that people can work from home and do a lot of different jobs. We know that some of the most dangerous jobs as far as the COVID, they’re not working from home. They’re at the front line. They’re people who are stocking the shelves in grocery stores. They’re doing checkouts. They’re doing all kinds of things, interfacing with the public.”

DeWine, meanwhile, has announced a lengthy list of businesses and attractions that are permitted to reopen this month -- including museums, aquariums, movie theaters and playgrounds.
