Gov. DeWine orders flags lowered to half-staff to honor Dayton Detective Jorge DelRio

Flags shall remain lowered until sunset on Tuesday, November 12.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that all U.S. and Ohio flags be lowered to half-staff in honor of Dayton Police Detective Jorge DelRio.

DelRio was shot Monday while working with a Drug Enforcement Administration task force serving a warrant. He passed away Thursday.

"Fran and I send our deepest condolences to the DelRio family, and the Dayton Police Department on the death of Detective DelRio," Gov. DeWine said. "He leaves a distinguished legacy of service to his community."

DeWine’s order includes all public buildings and grounds in Montgomery County and at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center and the Rhodes Tower in Columbus.

Flags shall remain lowered until sunset on Tuesday, November 12.

DelRio is a 30-year veteran of the Dayton Police Department and has been with the DEA task force since 2000.

According to the city, he leaves behind his wife Kathy, five daughters, three grand-daughters, and another grandchild on the way.
