ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University police are investigating a reported rape that happened Saturday morning inside a dorm room.

University police say it occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday night in a Shively Hall dorm room.

The victim, who is not a student, reported that a male engaged her in sexual conduct without consent. The woman also said she was hit on her head and sustained minor injuries.

Ohio University police describe the suspect as male, 5'10" with brown hair and square-shaped glasses. He also was described to have a "deeper voice" and bushy eyebrows.

University police said from the start of the school year, they have had two rape reports and one sexual imposition report. One of those rapes happened last year and was just reported.

Ohio University sent a statement saying,” Over the past few years, our University made significant investments toward safety measures including expanded late-night transportation routes, increased installation of security cameras on campus, and launched the Bobcat Safe app. We will continue to work diligently until our campus defeats the appalling nationwide problem of sexual assault on college campuses.”

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Ohio University police by calling 740-593-1911 or by using the Bobcat Safe app.

The university says the Bobcat Safe app allows students to have their friends follow them virtually and also allows them to text a police officer.
