Neighbors in the Hungarian Village are warning one another about a rash of home break-ins, many happening in broad daylight.

Signs are appearing on telephone poles near Hinman Avenue, warning homeowners of the break-ins and urging neighbors to keep an eye on their property.

Homeowner Brian Whitley says on Monday his security system caught a thief in action.

“He knew I was gone,” Whitley said. “He was monitoring and he was watching.”

Whitley said the thief walked away with a broken shop vac after he tried to disable two security cameras.

The homeowner says this incident serves an important lesson: look out for one another and for those looking to go on a shopping spree on his neighbors’ property we are watching you.

“You’re being watched,” Whitley said. “More people are aware and you’re being watched and these cameras... you can steal them from us but your image is still being recorded.”

Columbus police say they are aware of the reported break-ins and are working with zone officers to develop a plan of action.
