COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man has pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of a woman and the rapes of two other women, according to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien.

Troy Hairston, 49, turned himself in to police in 2019 after 47-year-old Tonya Daniels was found unresponsive in a garage on Seymore Avenue in the Livingston Avenue area of Columbus.

“Within a five-month time span, this man kidnapped and raped three women, killing one of them," said O'Brien in a news release when Hairston was indicted.

Hairston raped a 70-year-old woman on September 26, 2018.

On February 24, 2019, he raped a 57-year-old woman and raped and killed Daniels.

O'Brien said Hairston called and confessed the crimes to police on March 9, 2019.

Hairston has been given Repeat Violent Offender specifications in the indictment due to his rape conviction from 1994.

Hairston is scheduled to be sentenced on September 10.

He will be required to register as a Tier III sex offender and faces a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole on a charge of aggravated murder, O'Brien said.

O'Brien said Hairston could also be sentenced to an additional 33 years for the rape charges.
