Man gets 10 years for cocaine hidden in baby blanket

DELAWARE -- A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for hiding more than 500 grams of cocaine in a baby blanket in Delaware County Common Pleas Court.

Omar Osualdo Gutierrez was sentenced for the criminal activity that occurred in 2012, according to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release, in September of 2012, law enforcement seized a baby blanket that had been shipped to a home in Powell from the Dominican Republic and was saturated with 881 grams of cocaine.

After his arrest in 2012, Gutierrez was taken to New York in connection with a federal drug crime. After serving a sentence for that charge, he was brought back to Delaware County Feb. 5, 2018, where he pleaded guilty.

Gutierrez, now 38, faces 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine and five years of post-release control.
