Man accused of leading police on pursuit in stolen Whitehall police cruiser

A man is facing charges after police say he stole a Whitehall police cruiser and led several law enforcement agencies on a pursuit.

WHITEHALL, Ohio — A man is facing charges after police say he stole a Whitehall police cruiser and led several law enforcement agencies on a pursuit.

At about 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Whitehall police say they were contacted by Reynoldsburg police to assist with a pursuit after 29-year-old Frederick Pace, Jr. allegedly rammed several cruisers in Reynoldsburg and fled.

The pursuit continued into the area of Fairway Street and E. Main Street in Whitehall where police say Pace fled into the woods. While officers were searching for him, police say Pace left the woods and stole a Whitehall police cruiser.

Whitehall, Bexley, Columbus and other police agencies pursued Pace and officers used stop sticks to disable the cruiser, which came to a stop at the intersection of E. Broad Street and Grant Avenue in downtown Columbus.

Police say Pace fled a short distance before being apprehended. He was taken to Grant hospital for observation and is set to be slated into Franklin County Jail on charges including Felonious Assault on a Police Officer, Theft and Failure to Comply.
