Local parents and parents-to-be find resources while they walk

COLUMBUS, Ohio – They say raising a child takes a village.

Well, the City of Columbus and CelebrateOne want expecting and new parents to know they’re not alone.

Inspired by the “Walk with a Doc” program, “Stroller Socials” are an opportunity for parents and parents-to-be to get out, get some exercise and talk with local doctors about pregnancy and caring for newborns.

“We know that some of our moms or some of our parents are eager to get information about how they can better care for themselves as well as their babies and we also know that providers are eager to get the information out to parents about how they can better take care of themselves as well as their newborn baby,” said Dr. Mysheika Roberts, heal commissioner for Columbus Public Health.

Topics covered on the walks include everything from vaccinations, exercise during and after pregnancy and safe sleeping habits for babies.

Patrice Allen Brady, a neighborhood integration manager with CelebrateOne says she finds the “Stroller Socials” applicable to her own life.

“Me being a first-time mom myself, I had a lot of questions about, you know, how does baby sleep? What should I eat? What kind of support, what does support look like as a new mom and moms-to-be? Some of our connectors are experts in this space.”

CelebrateOne is also offering Stroller Socials on the west side of Columbus. The next two are Saturday, Sept. 28 and Oct. 12 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Dodge Park & Community Center, 667 Sullivant Ave.

The final “Stroller Social” of the season will take place Saturday, Oct 19 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Woodward Park & Community Center, 5147 Karl Rd.
