LANCASTER, Ohio — The Lancaster Police Department on Sunday released body cam footage in the Saturday arrest of a man with a gun.

Officers responded to a call in the 800 block of N. Columbus Street Saturday evening on reports of a distraught male with a pistol.

Upon arrival, police say the man fired a round before dropping the weapon within a few feet of him and kneeled to the ground. An officer could be seen forcing the suspect to the ground — a move the police say was in order to get the man away from the gun. The man was then taken to the hospital for treatment and arrested.

Lancaster police released the footage after viewer video circulated of the arrest.

“The subject does not immediately comply with their commands to get face down on the ground,” the video post on the department’s social media reads. Police say in the post the man could be seen catching himself once forced to the ground.

Any charges against the man are currently unknown.

Police say no one in the area or the man suffered any injuries.
