All lanes of I-71 North at Main Street back open after stolen car crashes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — All lanes of I-71 North at Main Street near downtown Columbus are back open after the road was partially closed when a stolen car crashed Monday night.

Columbus police say the vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking in the 1800 block of Berrancher Drive near Georgesville Road.

A call was made to police about the carjacking around 5:25 p.m. According to police, shots were also fired when the car was stolen but no one was hit.

Officers spotted the car a short time later at a Lowe's store. Police began pursuing the car but stopped the chase after the car reached high speeds.

The car was spotted again later on Holly Hill Drive and officers began to pursue it.

The car later crashed on I-71 North near Main Street.

The suspect was treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken into custody.

Police say the suspect is a male but have not released his name or age.
