"He wouldn't hurt a fly": Family seeking answers in murder of 18-year-old

After an 18-year-old man was shot and killed in east Columbus on Friday, his family is wanting someone to come forward.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — After an 18-year-old man was shot and killed in east Columbus on Friday, his family is wanting someone to come forward.

It's a tragedy for a family who's focused on helping other families through their grieving.

“He didn't deserve none of this, none of it,” said grandmother Rhonda Brown. “This was my fear, this was my worst fear that someone would hurt him because he's such a big guy.”

Brenden Brown was driving in the area of Shady Lane and East Livingston Avenue in east Columbus Friday night when someone shot him.

Brenden's car crashed into power poles and brought down power lines.

“Brendon is a gentle giant. He wouldn't hurt a fly," Rhonda said.

Officers say Brenden was driving near a vigil near Shady Lane Elementary School when he was shot.

But they also believe it may have been someone inside the car who shot him.

“We cannot believe it was our Brenden that this happened to," Rhonda said. "The last person in the world that anybody would think that somebody would want to hurt him. It just doesn't make any sense,"

Rhonda says Brenden called her out of the blue the morning before he died.

“Before I went to work, he had called, asked if I needed anything, was I okay?” she said. “Brenden is the best grandson in the world.”

That concern for others runs in the family.

Back in September, 10TV spoke with Brenden's mother, Keeandra Brown.

She started the "Columbus Ohio Remembrance Page."

It serves as an online vigil where people can post memories of their loved ones.

“It's so painful to watch people have to go through this. To lose their loved ones over senseless acts for nothing,” she told 10TV.

Brenden's family asks for anyone who knows anything to call police.

A vigil Sunday night will honor Brenden's life as those who knew him gather to remember him.
