POWELL, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium announced it is closed on Wednesday due to the heavy snow/rain mix hitting central Ohio.

“The safety and wellbeing of the animals, our guests, and staff is our top priority. Please know that the animals continue to be in great care, thanks to our devoted Animal Care and Facilities teams,” the zoo said.

The zoo is one of a few businesses in central Ohio that have closed due to inclement weather and rough road conditions. The National Veterans Memorial and Museum and morning activities at the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department were closed and/or canceled due to the winter weather advisory.

Additionally, several school districts in the area, including Columbus City Schools, canceled classes.

More snow is expected to hit central Ohio Thursday with some additional light accumulations possible. With temperatures potentially hitting below freezing overnight, a threat for refreeze on the road is likely.

The Columbus Zoo says it plans to reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday.
