COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus police officer who shot and killed a woman after she reportedly stabbed him has been relieved of duty.
10TV has learned Andrew Mitchell handed in his gun and badge but is still with the Columbus Division of Police.
Mitchell, a 30-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Police, killed 23-year-old Donna Castleberry on August 23.
A Columbus police spokesperson said Mitchell being relieved of duty was not solely related to the shooting but a “culmination of things.”
The Columbus Division of Police vice unit is under review after the incident involving Mitchell and the arrest of porn star Stormy Daniels in a Columbus strip club.
On Thursday, the police department asked for the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Public Corruption Task Force in their investigation into the vice unit.
A department spokesperson said the FBI investigation is “bigger than one person.”
