Columbus barbershop owner to be contestant on 'Survivor'

Matthew Grinstead-Mayle is among the 18 people chosen to participate in the reality-competition franchise.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus barbershop owner will be one of the contestants in the 44th season of the CBS show "Survivor."

Matthew Grinstead-Mayle is among the 18 people chosen to participate in the reality-competition franchise.

Mayle was born in Pickerington, but currently lives in the capital city with his husband and their 4-year-old son.

The 43-year-old said being a father has prepared him for the show.

"I'm not adaptable, I'm beyond adaptable. I'm a social butterfly through and through and I will flutter through those physical competitions and I'm gonna come for every single one of them," Mayle said.

Season 44 of "Survivor" kicks off March 1.
