COLUMBUS, Ohio — A California man was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for threatening a shooting at Ohio State University.

Court records show Daniel Rippy, 29, also vowed to hurt or kill players on the football team.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Rippy made the threat in a Facebook message during the game between Ohio State and the University of Michigan in 2018.

The game was played in Columbus that year, and Ohio State won 62-39.

According to the indictment, Rippy said, “I’m seriously going to hurt the students and all of the players from the football team."

“Because of Rippy, law enforcement officials at the stadium were placed on high alert and re-allocated resources to investigate the threat. His words are not without consequence, as illustrated by today’s sentence of imprisonment," U.S. Attorney David DeVillers said in a statement on Tuesday.

Rippy was arrested in California in December 2019, released on bond, then re-arrested when he did not show up at a court hearing

He pleaded guilty in July to one count of making a threat in interstate communication.
