With the help of a grant from the CDC a new drop in center is looking to help minorities who identify themselves as members of the transgender and gender non-conforming community.

“It’s historical for folks here in Ohio,” Mozaic staff member LuSter Singleton said.

“There is no other space that was intentionally put together and dedicated to this population of people.”

The Mozaic center, located at 2228 Summit Street, offers a safe space for members of the transgender community as well as free HIV and STI testing.

“It’s disproportionately affecting communities of color and in particular transgender communities.”

The center also offers resources for homeless youth and issue Singleton says is experienced more often in the transgender community.

“Our homeless shelter for youth is overwhelmingly high percentage of LGBT people and a high percentage of that are transgender folks,” Singleton said.
